Dr. Tesfaye Boru Lelissa is a prominent leader in the banking sector, with over 22 years of extensive experience, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer and Board member of Global Bank Ethiopia S.C. since mid-2019. His leadership style emphasizes strategic collaboration and continuous improvement, driving effective organizational growth. Dr. Tesfaye has held significant roles at esteemed institutions, including Zemen Bank, Abyssinia Bank, the National Bank of Ethiopia, and United Bank, where he advanced from Junior Loan Officer to executive leader. His vision for Global Bank Ethiopia aims to establish the bank as a leader in innovation and excellence within the East African banking landscape, empowering communities through tailored financial services. Under his leadership, the bank has launched a diverse array of conventional and interest-free banking products, as well as innovative digital solutions that enhance customer experiences. A notable recent initiative includes enabling the purchase of insurance through mobile banking and digital finance, which increases accessibility for customers. Dr. Tesfaye holds two Ph.D. degrees in Business Leadership from UNISA (South Africa) and Economics from Selinus University (Italy). He also has a B.A. in Economics, a B.A. in Management, a Chartered Accountant designation from the UK, and an MBA in Business Administration. Dr. Tesfaye is also an accomplished academic, with over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and significant policy contributions in leading newspapers. He chairs Lucy Insurance S.C. and serves on the boards of EthSwitch and Jimma University, further solidifying his influence in the acadamic, digital and financial sector.
